Wyrd & Wonder Plans, Flowchart, May TBR and r/Fantasy Virtual Con things

It looks like after a brief respite in April, my blogging slump if threatening to come back in full force. Still, here I am, trying to power through and make plans.

I signed up for Wyrd & Wonder,  a month blogging Celebration of the Fantastic, hosted by @deargeekplace, @imyril@joriestory

It’s great seeing what everyone is up and all this love for fantasy.

There are daily prompts of things to do. We’re technically on day 7, but this is my post for day 1, TBRs!

Day 1:  May TBR!

  • Finish Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones (finished it yesterday, but, you know, counts) Loved it, so wholesome
  • Swashbuckling Cats – Nine Lives on the Seven Sea – short story anthology edited by Rhonda Parrish. About 40% in, loving it so far. So many Cats!
  • Network Effect by Martha Wells. Just started it last night, going great, I was so excited for the Murderbot novel
  • The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo for the Feminism in Fiction bookclub on reddit fantasy
  • The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley for the Happy Ever After bookclub on r/fantasy

Day 2: Start here

Day 2’s prompt was Start here (get into fantasy), and I loved that prompt, because it was so easy and great fun, coming up with this clear, simple to follow flowchart. It’s just a quick easy way for the confused newbie to know where to start.

There are lots of fun-sounding prompts:

The ones that I’ll probably end up doing something for are:

  • Under-rated
  • Myths and legends
  • A Friend in Need
  • Currently reading
  • Beyond the Binary
  • Tall Ships
  • Not all Heroes Wear Capes

I’ve also got the last of my series of mini-reviews planned for this week, and then hopefully I can get back into the habit of reviewing at a reasonable pace. Right, like that ever happens.

r/fantasy Virtual Con

Over on reddit/fantasy the virtual con is still going strong through May. The panels are amazing, I highly recommend checking them out, even if you didn’t catch them live. You can find the links here (updated weekly)

Here’s this week’s schedule:

Hope your May is going better than mine, but I’m very thankful for all these great events to look forward to

  1. I hope your May get better, I know how frustrating everything is right now. I keep forgetting about the prompts, so thanks for reminding me😁

This week’s been not great, but hoping for some nice patio weather at the weekend, that always charges me up.

  2. Ooh I loved Howl’s Moving Castle (although it’s been a while since I read it now!) and The Empress of Salt and Fortune! It sounds like you have a very fun, busy May planned – happy reading!

Wyrd and Wonder is proving great for giving me a sense of purpose
