A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid – as Romantic Paintings
13 Feb 2024

I finished A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid and I loved it, I love vibes, particularly creepy seaside vibes, and this was absolutely dripping with atmosphere. All through reading it, and after, I kept thinking of Romantic era paintings, with their foamy seas and swirling skies, and feelings, and
Tall Alien Elves – Why Foreigner does it better than Avatar

My bf and I watched Avatar the Way of Water over the past two weeks. We found it an unsatisfying experience, and we basically spent the entire movie grumbling. I spent a significant time explaining why CJ Cherryh’s Foreigner series does tall space elves better, and I thought I’d share
The Bookshop and The Barbarian by Morgan Stang – sapphic cozy fantasy written specifically for me

This book is very polarizing in reviews, because it has a lot of parts, esp the humor, that you either dig or you don’t. Well, I dug. It has a sort of “written to market” feel, but it’s like that market is specifically me. The comparison to Legends and Lattes

The r/Fantasy book bingo challenge is my favorite reading challenge of the year, and one I seem to be able to stick to even when everything else is chaos. I didn’t plan out my cards this year, just choosing from my TBR/owned books/library options whatever fits the squares I have

This book was a delight. It’s a slice of life, gothic fantasy that feels cozy. The world is queernorm which is always lovely to read about, just no hassle. It’s also pretty short and a quick read. We only follow one PoV, a young boy who lives in a seaside

Spoilers included lower down I just finished 1899 on Netlix and it was such a weird and compelling ride I wanna squee about it at other people. Here’s the trailer for it. It’s a creepy mystery featuring a missing steamship in 1899. It’s really hard to talk about this without going into

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao  I was blown away by this. I knew the general concept of it, a sci-mecha story inspired by Wu Zetian, the only female sovereign in the history of China, but I could not imagine how wild it would be. It pulls no punches.
The Sunday Post: August 2022 Round-Up

Goings-On Wow, I haven’t done a single round-up this entire year. I had two short holidays in August, a really good reading month and a very stressful time at work. At the beginning of August we went to Bucharest for a Nightwish concert, it was great. And then a few

“Perfect for fans of Game of Thrones” is overused and often wrong. And yet, I have to go and say it, this series is perfect for fans of Game of Thrones if you like: A well developed medieval-ish inspired world A large cast with interesting characters, some you love, some

I have not been reviewing much this year. At all. But I’ve read a lot of fun books, so I want to at least mention the ones that stuck with me, so here’s another little catch up series. Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor I listened to this on audio and

Mistcloak Cosplay from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

This is my “random noblewoman” Cosplay mistcloak from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. I really wanted to cosplay a character from a fantasy book and this was really the obvious choice for something easily recognizable. For full artistic freedom, she lives sometime between era 1 and era 2, just so I could go with the kind
