Top Ten Reasons Why I Love Fantasy
The Dragons
I just fucking love dragons. I like all manner of magical creatures, but dragons are best.
The Freedom
Fantasy opens worlds of possibilities that no other genre can offer, if you can imagine it, you can fit it into a fantasy book.
The Vastness
There is so much fantasy out there. Soooo many different kinds. The people who “oh fantasy is just elves and farmboys”? I want to smack them with my TBR-mountain teeming with different and unusual settings and stories and characters.
Magic
I love how magic is a thread that runs through all cultures on this earth, and I love how fantasy stories explore situations where the magic is more tangibly real.
Romanticism
There’s no two ways about it, I’m a big romantic sucker, I just love a good hero and a happy ending, trying to do what’s right. Gimme
Impossible situations
This kinda loops up with all my other points, but I love putting characters in impossible situations and seeing how they get out. What if a dragon attacked? What if the wizard were evil?
Comfort
I love settling in with a book that promises to be sweet and soft, have everything turn out well, characters you can root for.
Exploring
One of my main (and currently unavailable) hobbies is traveling. So naturally, I also love traveling to strange magical lands.
Escapism
Not all fantasy is escapist, by far, but my preferred flavor stays as far away from real-world horrors as possible.
Community
Fantasy fans and writers are awesome. Huge geeks that will go into silly details about what a made-up creature can and can’t do. And having a place to scream about books, and people do scream with, is great.

What a fabulous list. I love fantasy for all of these same reasons…plus the maps in them! Maps are awesome.
My TTT .
I listen to a lot of audiobooks, really makes me miss maps.
All great reasons! And I love that “dragons” is number 1😁
Dragons are always number 1.

“The Dragons”
Lets face it that could easily be reasons 1 through to 10! Dragons of Pern were my first fantasy dragons, then a Katherine Kerr series, The Dragon Mage. That was rather a long time ago but, yes, dragons are still the best.
I really need to read some of the classic Dragon books, I missed most of them while growing up
