This will be the first in a series of posts where I try to squeeze 3 bookish events into 2 weeks of blogging. Really going for overachieving this week as I’m linking up with:
- The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer.
- The Sunday Salon, hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.
- Stacking The Shelves which is hosted by Team Tynga’s Reviews
Deep breath, here we go, it’s gonna be a long one
BlackSFFathon
BlackSFFathon is a readathon for Black-authored speculative fiction. Taking place 10/18-10/31. Hosted by @ThistleVerse, @locpressedbooks, @ndamalicampbell, @Luciereads, and @noriathereader
New books & #BlackSFFathon TBR
-
- Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko
- A Princess in Theory by Alyssa Cole (currently reading, immensely fun and lovely)
- Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton
- Maya and the Rising Dark by Rena Barron
- Oathbound
- Oathbreakers
- Oathblood
- Mage Winds
- Mage Wars (with Larry Dixon)
This Week on the Blog
- Novella mini reviews (2): The Haunting of Tram Car 015, Silver in the Wood, The Deep, Riot Baby, Penric’s Demon
- Top Ten Tuesday – Books With Super Long Titles
- Mini-reviews: The Fifth Season, The City of Stairs, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and Turning Darkness into Light
YES, THAT IS 9 REVIEWS POSTED IN ONE WEEK! Which leaves me only 12 behind. Which is less climactic than I was hoping for, but my former list of 17 did not include the novellas apparently. No, wait, 13, I finished a book this week.
Read/Currently reading
I finished The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez I really liked it, even though it turned out very different from what I was expecting. I’ll be reviewing this one next month for Sci-Fi Month
And what am I currently reading? Far too many books at once is what I’m currently reading.
- Moving Pictures (Discworld, #10; Industrial Revolution, #1) by Terry Pratchett – because I ordered some for bf and oops accidentally started reading
- Ninefox Gambit (The Machineries of Empire, #1) by Yoon Ha Lee – for our Mod Book Club on r/fantasy
- A Princess in Theory (Reluctant Royals, #1) by Alyssa Cole – for BLM Book Bingo, loving it
- The Bone Witch (The Bone Witch, #1) by Rin Chupeco – for FIF Book Club on r/fantasy
Planned for next week
On Monday I want to do a post of Spooktastic Recs for Spooktastic Reads hosted by the people who organized Wyrd and Wonder, which I loved. It’s gonna be a challenge seeing how I tend to avoid horror, but I’ve got a few books I read and a lot of books I’d loved to read if I were less of scaredy-cat.
On Can’t Wait Wednesday I’ll mention a couple of my most anticipated books by Black authors, because it’s still Black Speculative Fiction month.
On Friday, ish, I’ll post my review of Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, which is amazing and one of my new favorite books.
And then next Sunday I’ll talk about what I’ve been doing for the OcTBR Challenge thus concluding by readathon marathon.
Lookit how planned and organized I am, who would’ve thunk.
I’m looking for novellas that can count for the Fraterfest Read-a-thon and I forgot that Sliver in the Wood is a novella! It’s on by TBR list. I had a look at your review, beautiful and I am going to see if I can get hold of the book.
Hope you will have a good week, good luck with your hectic schedule!
Here’s my The Sunday Post #15
Awesome, hope you like it! Hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by
The BlackSFFathon event sounds like great fun. I am a person who loves to do bingo boards, especially a blackout, so that will be a good challenge, I think.
I remember reading a lot about The Jumbies some years back—maybe it was a Texas Bluebonnet book?—so that should be good.
Nine reviews! Great week for you.
I love bingo boards, I think this is my 4th this year. I’ve got so much I want read, it helps me organize them.
I haven’t heard of The Jumbies before, I don’t really pay a lot of attention to middle grade books, but I’ve really enjoyed all the one I’ve read recently, so I’m looking forward to it!
Wow thanks for all the new recs! And thanks for sharing the BlackSSFathon-another new to me event!
Thanks for stopping by! There are so many amazing events going on, I only wish I had more time for all of them!
Sounds like a great week. And thanks for putting so many new to me books on my radar. I will be checking them out one by one. Stay safe!
Thanks for dropping by! I hope you like the books you try!
I love the sound of the Black SFFathon – it sounds fantastic! Raybearer looks stunning – I hope you enjoy it. And I’m really excited to see that you have a copy of Tooth and Claw – one of my all-time favourite reads. I hope you have a great reading week:))
I don’t know how I’ve managed to make it so far without reading Tooth and Claw, it sounds perfect for me. Well, soon now, I’ll see how I can squeeze it in between reading challenges.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, Dianthaa – Jo Walton is always worth reading:))
I just finished Ring Shout and loved it! In fact I have to write my review today. Thanks for the reminder😁
Looking forward to it, thanks for stopping by!
Raybearer is gorgeous! I love books that just are so pretty inside and out. I hope you love all your new books.
Love the painted figures, they look so cool!
I hope you have a wonderful week! Happy Reading!
Thank you! I’m starting Raybearer tonight, if I’m not too tired, we painted a lot of terrain today lol, wouldn’t have said that could make me tired but well
Good luck with the BlackSFFathon
That terrain looks good, I’ll be sharing the link with my son who plays a regular game
Wishing you a great reading week
Thanks for stopping by! BlackSFFathon is going great!
We’re having so much fun with the terrain, gonna look lovely
