Asian Readathon is a month-long readathon in May to celebrate Asian characters & authors. Hosted by @readwithcindy, this event is a month-long readathon dedicated to reading books featuring Asian protagonists and/or written by Asian authors. This is an online event that is meant to be as easy and accessible for everyone. To participate I’m planning to read a lot of Fantasy books by Asian authors this month.

I did A LOT of shuffling around my books and ended up with one book per challenge, with the authors having different identities.

Challenges:

  1. Read any book written by an Asian author. Shadowglass by Rin Chupeco
  2. Read any book featuring an Asian protagonist. The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri
  3. Read any book written by an Asian author in your favorite genre. The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart
  4. Read any nonfiction book written by an Asian author. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo
  5. Read any book written by an Asian author that’s not US-centric. The House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard

These challenges can be combined if you want to make it even easier!

The twist:

  • You can combine challenges and read in any order; however, EACH book you read should feature a character or author of a different Asian ethnicity. This is to encourage cultural diversity.

Other books on my TBR:

I got a last minute ARC of Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells, going to try to read it today because I am HYPE

Our Mod Book Club book of the month on reddit.fantasy.com is Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeanette Ng and I’ve been meaning to read that for ages.

Some members of r/Fantasy are starting a Hugo Finalist Readalong and ofc I jumped in. The first month happens to be the one where I haven’t read any of the books previously, so that’s gonna be intense.

  • Monday, May 3 – Short Stories
  • Monday, May 10 – Novelettes
  • Friday, May 14 – Novella – Finna
  • Thursday, May 20 – Novel Black Sun
  • Wednesday, May 26- Graphic – Parable of the Sower: A Graphic Novel Adaptation

So yeah, a lot of books on my plate next month, and there’s Wyrd and Wonder so that’ll mean a lot of blog posts too. Really hoping my job calms the fuck down so I can actually have the functional brain cells for this.

Goings-On

Same old, getting very old. This week was still exhausting at work and all I’ve done otherwise is veg in Minecraft.

Books read

Finished The Four Profound Weaves by RB Lemberg, loved it, it’s a secondary world novella about two trans people later in life. It has a lovely desert setting and I really enjoyed the style.

Finished Imaro by Charles Saunders and really enjoyed it to the end.

Started The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow, a sci fi YA about colonizing aliens, very much liking the characters. Also, Escaping Exodus Symbiosis by Nicky Drayden, I think I’m liking the sequel even more than the first.

This Week on the Blog

I’m linking up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. and The Sunday Salon, hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz
