We just had our vote for Top Novels over on r/Fantasy the other week, so putting together this list was easy, because I’ve already had to think of my favorite books, and it’s blog and I can write about as many as like! Not like those evil mods that make me only pick 10! (note: I am part of said evil mods)
-
- Legendborn by Tracy Deonn – Arthurian legends and modern racism
- Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K. Le Guin – Magic school, dragons, creepy underground
- The Dark Abyss of Our Sins by Krista D. Ball – Banter and fighting, some kisses
- The Broken Earth by N.K. Jemisin – Earth shattering magic, great characters
- The Kingston Cycle by C.L. Polk – Secrets, take it all down
-
- Discworld by Terry Pratchett – Funny, happy, full of heart
- The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune – Warm hug, sweet, kind, hopeful
- The Tarot Sequence by K.D. Edwards – Great characters, relationships, & action
- The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison – Goblin Keanu Reaves learns politics
- The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold – Beautiful book, beautiful characters
-
- Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman – very fun, could be gayer
- Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch – vivid city, cool magical world
- City of Stairs by Robert Jackson Bennett – gods are dead, do politics

-
- The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia McKillip – woman wants to be left alone

I forgot all about this prompt! I love your choices, especially The Bone Ships and The Ten Thousand Doors😁
It was a super fun prompt! I need to get that Bone Ships sequel soon, I miss those characters
I’ve read and loved: McKillip, City of Stairs, Goblin Emperor, Chalion (!!!) and Jemisin from this list. The others — I’ve saved the list and I’m going to try and read them all before this year’s out. Thanks for some lovely recs!
Love the description for The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, lol. A striking fantasy story with such a simple premise! I think I’ve been saying I need to read The Bone Ships since last year’s Wyrd & Wonder…maybe I will get to it this year.
