It’s Monday, what are you reading 15.03.2021

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week.  This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date.

I’ve been neglecting the blog a little bit this month, just without even realizing it. I forgot to make a schedule at the start of the month and without that I just never got round to posting much. I’ve also been reading pretty slowly, I haven’t finished a book since last Sunday, which doesn’t usually happen with how I have 3 books going at once, but they’re all around midway now.

What I’m reading now:

  • The City in the Middle of the Night by Charlie Jane Anders – Reading for our Goodreads Book of the Month Book Club on r/fantasy. I wasn’t sure I’d like it based on reviews, but about halfway through I’m loving it. The world is so weird and fascinating, I want to learn everything about it.
  • Soulstar (The Kingston Cycle #3) by C.L. Polk – This book is destroying me, it has me so emotional I keep crying and having to pause it. I dunno how Polk can write this strongly, it’s amazing.
  • Voltaire in Love by Nancy Mitford – The plan was to read a chapter a day of this, but I’ve only done that one day this week. It’s a lot of fun but outside my comfort zone so going slow.

Up next:

I’ve still got two and half weeks till the new r/fantasy bingo starts. It’s my favorite book challenge of the year, and if you like speculative fiction reading challenges at all I highly recommend it. But, I don’t want to read any cards that I may be using for bingo before it starts, so I am having some conundrums.

On audio I’ll probably listen to The Science of Sci-Fi: From Warp Speed to Interstellar Travel by: Erin Macdonald , The Great Courses. It’s short and between what I’ve got left of Soulstar and this, I think that should get me far enough into the month that the next book can be a bingo canditate.

For my other options, I’ll probably read something in the Valdemar series by Mercdes Lackey or the InCryptid series by Seanan McGuire, because I own a lot of books there, and they’re fun easy reads, so even if they end up being good bingo pics, I can just use the next one in the series.

I’m glad you’re loving The City in the Middle of the Night, I was also worried about the negative reviews, but I should should just read it anyway😁

It’s weird as hell and I have no clue where any of it is going, but it’s also so creative, sort of both dark and kinda fun, I’m really enjoying it

Great looking books! I enjoyed the Valdemar books but haven’t reread any of them. And I keep saying that I’m going to read something by McGuire but haven’t started any of her series yet. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I’d been meaning to read something by McGuire for ages, she has so many different things. I ended up with this one when I needed something light and fun and it was a perfect fit.
