Today’s Wyrd and Wonder theme is: Fantasy creature on the cover (bonus points if it isn’t a dragon). I did a lot of searching, and I managed to come up with 8 Books with Fantasy creatures on the cover. That’s not very many tbh.
First of all I will not stand this insult to dragons, let my displeasure be noted. But I also I love bonus points so I will comply. This was not an easy prompt though, I went through all my goodreads covers and most are dragons, or cats that I’m not sure are actually magical without reading the books. Crows also seem popular but not always magical. I recently did a Top Ten Tuesday: Animals and creatures in books post, but most of them don’t have creatures of the covers! Most of these are from my TBR shelf, and now I’ve gone and made myself more curious about them.
- Sabriel (The Old Kingdom #1) by Garth Nix
- Nine Goblins by T. Kingfisher
- Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst
- Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger
- The Voyages of Cinrak the Dapper by A.J. Fitzwater
- The Winged Histories (Olondria) by Sofia Samatar
- Arrow’s Fall (Valdemar: Heralds of Valdemar #3) by Mercedes Lackey
- Catwings (Catwings #1) by Ursula K. Le Guin, S.D. Schindler (Illustrator)
Oh my word, what a cool post! And so many awesome covers. It has made me very curious about my TBR and possible fantasy creatures on covers, I think I have to investigate. Also, I have a copy of Elatsoe too and it is just so gorgeous!
If manga can be included as well, some of the volumes of Witch Hat Atelier (Kamome Shirahama) has some cute brush buddies on the cover 😀 A quick glance and most of my cover creatures are indeed dragons 😮 Found a phoenix on Crown of Feathers (Nicki Pau Preto), and a bunch of fae-looking cats, frog and what nots on my copy of Wildwood Dancing (Juliet Marillier).
I love that cover of The Voyages of Cinrak the Dapper!
Fae looking cats? Sounds like I need Wildwood Dancing in my life!
