Sunday Post: pumpkin season

Goings-On

This week was about a month long. My bf had a business trip and it was the first time I’ve been home alone since last March. I lost my shit was just randomly crying and pancking at the thought. Which helped me get up the courage to go therapy, I went once before he left and once when he was away, and it really helped. Basically after he left Saturday morning I found stuff to do, took a walk with some friends and binged almost all of Ted Lasso. Remembered what it’s like to be myself and started feeling more normal than I had in months. I also did (another) thing I’d been putting off for weeks so that was neat. Everything was cool until last evening when one of my coworkers, working on a different shift told us he’s got Covid, he’s vaxxed and only very mild symptoms, I haven’t been in contact, but my body still decided now would be a good time for a cold. Turned out to be quite a stressy Sunday

Yesterday I had a lot of fun carving a pumpkin, we don’t really do that here as a tradition, this is only the second time I’ve tried and I’m ridiculously pleased with the result. Have some making of and final pics. I’ve coated it throughouly with clear spray paint, so hoping it will last a while.

Books read

  • Into the Labyrinth and Jewel of the Endless Erg, books 1 and 2 from the Mage Errant series by John Bierce – progression fantasy, lots of fun, mushy found family goodness
  • Patience and Not-Forsaken by Alix E. Harrow, an audio short story, gothic and queer
  • The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite, f/f historical romance, lovely
  • The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle, creepy cosmic horror
  • Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold, another book set in the world of five gods, loved it, couldn’t put it down, kept making up tasks so I could listen

Sorry you had a panic attack being on your own. My husband travelled a lot for business so I got very used to it.

  2. Tammy says:

Aww the dogs are super cute!

  3. Darn! I can’t see your pumpkin pictures. Glad they turned out well.

I have a friend who freaks out every time her spouse goes out of town. She puts an actual carving knife under her pillow in case someone breaks in. It sounds like you ended up doing some good things as a result of the pressure of bf’s absense.

    Love the dog photos!

Oh sorry to hear that, it’s always very stressful when someone close to you or a co- worker gets Covid. then you have to worry am I going to get it?? Glad that things got better though during the business trip.

    Lovely dog pics!

I hope your coworker and you, both, are feeling better. Those dog pics are adorable, and I’m guessing they made you feel at least as happy as I am just looking at them. 🙂 Some day, I tell myself, I’m going to bring home a dog too. And welcome to the fandom of Paladin of Souls! I love that book, and re-read it every year. insert sheepish grin

  7. Awww the pups are so cute! Sadly I cannot see the pumpkin pictures but I am sure they look great! Also sorry that you’ve been panicky, but YAY for therapy! I really hope that you start to feel better. Hope you are feeling better physically, too. It’s so wild now, every cold is like, cause for alarm!

  8. I don’t like being on my own overnight either, I’m glad you sought support & worked through the stress.

Wishing you a great reading week
