Top Ten Tuesday: 10 love stories in SciFi and Fantasy

2:19 pm | | Comments 8

Hi! It’s been a while, I dunno why but I haven’t been able to write much of anything lately, though I’ve been reading a fair bit, and binging Netflix Christmas movies.

I thought to myself this morning “I’ll just do a quick Top Ten Tuesday post, that won’t need too much inspiration”, except:

Luckily my good friend Sara from The Fantasy Inn helped out and suggested romantic relationships, and even few of this list, which is perfectly fair since she’s the one who shilled them at me in the first place

  • Stariel by A.J. Lancaster – (m/f) how amazing is it when characters act like adults and (mostly) talk to each other?
  • The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones – (m/f) for a fantasy/zombie novel this was surprisingly cosy, with the romance between a strong village girl and bookish city boy being so wholesome
  • A Master of Djinn P. Djèlí Clark – (f/f) disclaimer: I like hot women in suits, even more so when they’re in a relationship with other hot women (more in dresses, but still excellent fashion sense)
  • The Labyrinth’s Archivist by Day Al-Mohamed –  (f/f) ok, I admit, I might have a type for competent law-enforcement-like women
  • The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri – (f/f) I love how this book works with the power difference between the 2 main character
  • This is How you Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar, Max Gladstone – (f/f)  you either like this or you don’t, and I love it
  • Soulstar by C.L. Polk –  (f/nb) every book in the Kingston Cycle has a nice romance plot, but this is my favorite because the characters are older, and they’ve been through a lot and they’re trying to come together again
  • The Tarot Sequence by K.D. Edwards – (m/m) this book just has the best relationships overall, and the romance is particularly kind and caring
  • Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse – (m/f) She was a flirty pan girl, he was a mysterious spoiler spoiler, can I make it anymore obvious? (note: as romantic side-plots go this is a small one, I just like the vibes)
  • The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow – (m/f) super sweet romance between the 2 leads bonding over their love of music and art

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in.

I love the relationships in The Tarot Sequence as well. They are actually fun to read, as opposed to romances that are too toxic😁

I’m not much for SFF so I haven’t heard of any of these books. I’m glad you enjoyed their romantic storylines!

Freebies can be tough sometimes! 🙂

I like your picks. I’ve heard really good things about Time War.

  6. Fabulous choices! I loooooved Black Sun and The Sound of Stars as well! I am actually almost done with The Kindred, and I am happy to report it is just as awesome as SoS! I liked Time War but I don’t think I fully got it, which is on me haha. And quite a few on here that I am hoping to read, so I am thrilled to see that you loved them!
