March Wrap-Up & r/Fantasy Virtual Con info

So…. March happened…. and it kept happening, and being pretty damn awful. I spent about two weeks intensely reading the news, giving myself all the anxiety. Now I’ve moved to aggressively not reading the news, and building a super tree house hotel in Minecraft, to deal with that anxiety.

Another thing that has been helping my anxiety is the r/Fantasy Virtual Con. I’m not directly involved in all the preparations, just helping out with some of the more admin threads. But, the event is great, and the panels are so much fun. We’ve got some amazing authors dropping by. You can find more info on the wiki page on reddit

Here’s this week’s schedule for a taster:

March reads

Reading wise it’s been my slumpiest month in ages. Very few reads. I finished The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold on March second, but I sure am counting it as a March book.

I listened to The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, but even the sheer goodness of that wasn’t enough to focus my attention so it took me more than 2 weeks for an audiobook, that never happens to me. I loved it, but I might need to relisten at a better time.

I read Tenebre, Labirintul by Daniel Timariu, which is an urban fantasy series set in my city. I love the regional aspect of it, and it so easy to use. The mixt of local folklore and history is also great. This volume involved angels & demons, underground mazes, ancient strigoi, and shed light on the mysteries of the previous volume.

A fun and short read was The Girl Who Married a Skull and other African Stories, a short story & fable anthology in graphic form. I loved all the different stories, and the reminder that fairytales often come with a dark twist.

Aaand that’s it for march books. April started off with a slightly better pace. I binged listened to the Magpie Lord by KJ Charles in one day. Finally started 10k Doors of January, and it’s every bit as beautiful as everyone said it would be.

March blog posts

The slump hit my blog posts hard too, but I do have two post from this month that I’m really happy with, my 2019 Hard mode card + mini reviews of underrated books and Woman’s Day Book Tag

I hope your April is going better as far as your reading and mental health. It took me a couple of weeks and I still have bad days sprinkled in. I want to read that Becky Chambers book–it was recommended to me by M.K. England when we were discussing her debut The Disasters.

I really recommend it, it’s got such good characters
