November wrap-up: SciFi Month and Taking it easy

4:49 pm | | Comments 8

After doing all the things and all the book club reads and all the challenges in October I said I’d take it easy in November, and I have. I’ve been wrapping up all my bingo challenges, only got half an audiobook to go. Only read one novella book club pick. Had many naps and just general lazying around, looking forward to the holidays. I’ve also fallen dreadfully behind my blog hopping, but we’ve got a long weekend now so I’m planning on that.

The weather’s been mostly glum and wet and miserable, and I have many many complaints about this get dark at 5 pm nonsense. We’re in lockdown but it doesn’t really make a huge difference as I’d probably be only bundled up inside anyway.

A lot of my mid-month mental space was taken up by reading Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson, the 4th Stormlight Archives novel. As I’d suspected, I’ve grown out of love with the series in the years since the previous book and this read left me frustrated and disappointed. it took me a full 10 days to refresh my memory and read that chonker of a book. The most frustrating bit is that I’m thousands of pages into this series and dammit I want to see the pay-off, so I’ll likely angrily read the next book too.

November was #SciFiMonth, hosted by Imyril @One More and Lisa @Dear Geek Place.

I didn’t make huge progress catching up with my reviews, but still posted a few:

I got new shelves and I made a whole post to show them off:

Posted the first of my bingo card wrap-ups

And set myself a mini-challenge, to finish some of the series I’ve started:

That’s it from me this month, I’m linking up with The Monthly Wrap-Up Round-Up, hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight.

I think you’re the first blogger I’ve seen who didn’t like Rhythm of War. I am not reading the series and probably never will, I just don’t enjoy such long books. Hope you have a relaxing December too😁

Love the new bookshelves! Looks like someone else likes them too. lol. I want to read Black Girl Unlimited, hope to get a chance soon. I didn’t get done what I wanted in November, guess I kind of took it easy without planning to. 🙂 Have a good December!

I adored the first 2 books in the stormlight archive but book 3 wasn’t my favorite. I’m really nervous to read book 4 now…

I wondering whether I want to post a review of it or not … cause the more I think about it the less charitable I feel

Thank you! I really rec Black Girl Unlimited, I thought it wouldn’t be for me with how traumatic the begining is, but it turns it around so magnificently it’s amazing

  6. Dianthaa says:

Yeah I liked the first two a lot when I initially read them, 3rd was ok … this one not so much. But I’ve seen others say it’s the best in the series, so you might still like it!

I’ve been tempted to start the Brandon Sanderson series, but the length of the books scares me. I love how you added lights to your new shelves–so cheery and fun! I too dislike the 5 pm darkness here, but at least with COVID I have no where to venture out into the night anyway. I’ve been enjoying exercising in my living room with online streaming classes–no commute to a center has its benefits.

I would’ve been much more likely to recommend his Stormlight Archives before I read the latest entry, this time length really was a huge issue for me.

I really hope to get back into an exercise routine over the holidays, I’m feeling way too creaky.
